Welcome to Shy Image. My name is Timothy Gast and I’d like to tell you a little something about myself and what motivated me to create this website. Since I was young I have always been interested in photography and film. Some of my fondest memories are of me and my mom sitting on the couch watching old black and white movies on TV. I remember feeling drawn to the sharp contrast and bold images on the screen as well as in photographs. As I got a little older my love of black and white fueled my passion for the lush and textural images created using color film. Looking back, I would describe my early endeavors with photography as more of a deep appreciation of the art form that I “tinkered with” now and then. That all changed when I discovered a new way of taking pictures with the dawn of the digital age. I am happy to say I was one of the first ones on the digital bandwagon. I took a lot of guff in those early days from my traditional film contemporaries, but I never wavered. Since then I have watched as, one-by-one, they fell in line with the new art form. My passion for photography was a natural companion to my love of food as well as my compulsion to write, document and share. This passion led me to launch my food blog, ‘HaveYouEaten, SF?’ in March of 2012. Sometimes I write a story to go along with a photograph and sometimes it is the other way around. At the suggestion of some friends, I decided to put up a site for when the picture comes first. As much as I love photographing food, the challenges are at times daunting. With this site I will be able to showcase the food that never made it to the blog as well as share with you other images of the various interests I indulge in. I hope you like what you see and I hope you come back to watch as this site evolves. Thank you for stopping by.
